Why 3D print your prototype?
Getting from concept to physical prototype used to mean either expensive machining, long lead times for injection moulding, or compromising on the design to fit what was available. FDM 3D printing changes this entirely.
With our instant quote tool, you can have a price in seconds and a physical PETG prototype in your hands within a few working days. If the design needs changing, you iterate, print again, and the total cost is still a fraction of any alternative.
What kinds of prototypes do we print?
- Functional prototypes — Parts that need to work, not just look right. PETG's mechanical properties make it suitable for testing real loads, fits and functions.
- Fit-check models — Physical confirmation that dimensions are correct before committing to production tooling.
- Proof of concept parts — Early-stage designs where you want to understand how the geometry works in three dimensions.
- Presentation models — Higher quality Fine (0.12 mm) prints for showing to clients or stakeholders.
- Pre-production validation — Parts that represent final geometry for assembly trials and approval before production begins.
Iteration without the cost
The real value of 3D printing for prototyping isn't just the speed — it's that iteration is cheap. If your first version doesn't fit, modify the file and print again. There are no tooling modifications, no die changes, no minimum order quantities. You can run through multiple design cycles in a week for the cost of a few prints.
PETG vs PLA for prototypes
While PLA is cheaper and easier to print, we recommend PETG for functional prototypes because it better represents the properties you'll want in a final production part. If your finished part will be in a warm environment, under load, or exposed to moisture, a PLA prototype won't tell you how the real thing will behave. A PETG prototype will.
Turnaround time
Most prototypes are dispatched within 2–3 working days of confirming your order. For time-critical projects, get in touch and we'll let you know what's achievable — we don't promise what we can't deliver, but we'll do our best to accommodate genuine deadlines.
Multiple versions in one order
Our quote tool supports multiple STL files in a single order. If you want to test two versions of a design side by side, upload both, set your quantities, and get a combined quote. One order, one handling fee.
