3D printing for automotive applications
Modern vehicles use hundreds of plastic components — clips, brackets, trim pieces, cable guides, duct connectors. Many of these are unavailable as genuine parts once a model is out of production, and aftermarket suppliers don't cover everything. 3D printing fills this gap.

Why PETG for automotive use?
A car interior is a surprisingly harsh environment for plastic parts:
- Heat — Dashboards and enclosed spaces can reach 80°C+ on hot days. PLA softens at around 60°C and is entirely unsuitable for vehicles left in the sun.
- Vibration — Constant mechanical vibration fatigues materials over time. PETG's better impact resistance and layer adhesion make it more durable in vibrating environments.
- Moisture — Door cards, boot areas and underbonnet spaces see moisture. PETG doesn't absorb water or become brittle in damp conditions.
- Oils and chemicals — PETG has reasonable resistance to oils, brake fluid and cleaning products that PLA would absorb and degrade under.
PETG is rated to approximately 80°C continuous use — suitable for most vehicle interior applications. It's not rated for direct engine bay or exhaust proximity applications, where temperatures may exceed this.

- Interior trim brackets — Replacement clips and hidden mounting points for door cards, trim panels and dashboards
- Cable management — Custom routing guides, saddles and clamps for wiring runs
- Dashboard mounts — Phone holders, switch panels, aux equipment mounts custom-fitted to your vehicle
- Boot and storage fittings — Custom organiser brackets, tool holders, load restraint points
- Vent and duct adapters — Custom connectors for ventilation systems or equipment requiring ducting
- Classic and historic vehicle spares — Parts for vehicles where OEM support has long ended
Fitment and tolerances
For parts that clip into existing sockets or mate with OEM fittings, dimensional accuracy matters. Our Bambu Lab printers hold tolerances of ±0.2 mm, which is adequate for most clip and bracket applications. We recommend a small quantity test print before ordering a full batch to confirm fitment.
Classic car and historic vehicle parts
Older vehicles present a particular challenge — genuine parts are either unavailable or extremely expensive, aftermarket options may not exist, and the vehicle deserves better than making do. If you can take measurements or send photos of a broken component, get in touch — we may be able to create a model and print a replacement.
