3D printing for automotive applications

Modern vehicles use hundreds of plastic components — clips, brackets, trim pieces, cable guides, duct connectors. Many of these are unavailable as genuine parts once a model is out of production, and aftermarket suppliers don't cover everything. 3D printing fills this gap.

Why PETG for automotive use?

A car interior is a surprisingly harsh environment for plastic parts:

PETG is rated to approximately 80°C continuous use — suitable for most vehicle interior applications. It's not rated for direct engine bay or exhaust proximity applications, where temperatures may exceed this.

Common automotive applications

Fitment and tolerances

For parts that clip into existing sockets or mate with OEM fittings, dimensional accuracy matters. Our Bambu Lab printers hold tolerances of ±0.2 mm, which is adequate for most clip and bracket applications. We recommend a small quantity test print before ordering a full batch to confirm fitment.

Classic car and historic vehicle parts

Older vehicles present a particular challenge — genuine parts are either unavailable or extremely expensive, aftermarket options may not exist, and the vehicle deserves better than making do. If you can take measurements or send photos of a broken component, get in touch — we may be able to create a model and print a replacement.
