Who actually prints parts in Suffolk?
We do. 3D Guru is a PETG printing workshop in Mildenhall, west Suffolk, taking one-off repair parts and short runs from households and businesses across the county.
Search for local 3D printing and most of the first page is directories — aggregator sites that list names, rank nobody in particular, and answer not one of the questions you actually have. This page is an attempt to answer them instead.
You can upload a file and never speak to a person, or you can ring and talk it through. Both are normal. The number goes to the person who will print your part.
What do people bring us?
Roughly two thirds repairs, one third making something new:
- Parts that are no longer sold — appliance knobs and shelf clips, caravan catches, blind brackets, trim fasteners, handles off kit the manufacturer dropped years ago
- Brackets and mounts for something that has to sit at an angle no off-the-shelf fitting provides
- Jigs and fixtures for workshops around Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and the industrial estates — drill guides, alignment aids, assembly fixtures
- Prototypes somebody wants to hold this week rather than next month
- Short runs of one to fifty identical parts with no tooling to pay for
Everything in PETG, which copes with heat, damp and knocks far better than the PLA most hobby printing uses. The PETG against PLA guide explains why that matters for anything that has to work.
What should I bring with me?
The broken part, if you still have it. Failing that, photos from several angles with a steel rule in shot, plus whatever the part fits so we can check the mating dimensions.
If the part is in two clean pieces, bring both. A clean break is good news because the original shape is fully recoverable. If a chunk is missing, bring what survives along with the thing it mounts to — screw spacing and the shape of the recess usually pin down the rest.
The measuring guide covers which dimensions actually matter if you would rather send photographs than make a trip.
Why use someone local rather than a national service?
Because the part can change hands. You can bring the broken one in, we can check the fit together, and if it is wrong you can be back the same week rather than in the post twice.
For a straightforward file that needs printing, a national service is perfectly fine and we run one ourselves. Local earns its keep when the part is awkward: an odd profile, a tolerance that matters, a fit nobody can judge from a photo.
The other thing is that you are talking to the person doing the work, not a queue. If your job is unusual, that is worth something.
Which parts of Suffolk do you cover?
Free collection from Mildenhall, and next working day post to most of the county. We see most work from Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Thetford, Ely, Haverhill and Cambridge.
Town pages with the local detail: Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Cambridge, Mildenhall, and Suffolk generally.
What will you turn down?
Anything holding a person up, holding pressure, near an engine, or part of a braking, steering or restraint system. Also branded badges and parts the manufacturer still sells cheaply.
And we will tell you when the honest answer is metal, or a nine pound universal fitting from a factor down the road. It costs us the order and saves you the disappointment, which is the better trade for both of us.
Common questions
Is there a 3D printing service near me in Suffolk?
Yes. We are a working PETG printing workshop in Mildenhall, covering Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Thetford, Ely, Cambridge and the villages between.
Can I bring the broken part in person?
Yes, and it is the best way to get a part that fits first time. Having the original in hand beats any set of measurements you could send us.
Do I need a file or a drawing?
No. Most of our work arrives as a broken piece or a photo with a ruler next to it. We measure it, draw it and print the replacement.
How long does it take?
Most jobs are ready in two to three working days. Simple parts collected from the workshop are often sooner, and we will tell you a real date before you commit.
How much does one part cost?
Usually twelve to thirty pounds for a small functional part in PETG, plus drawing time if we have to model it. There is no minimum order.
What if it does not fit?
Send a photo and tell us what is wrong. If the error is ours we remodel and reprint at no charge, because a part that does not fit is not a finished job.
